Challenge
When the Grand Jury in Orange County and the Orange County Register demanded that the Orange County Board of Supervisors adopt the Los Angeles County Letter Grade system to show customers what grade the restaurant received during their last health inspection; Englander & Associates worked with the food service industry to educate the Orange County Board of Supervisors about the risks of adopting a system that was misleading. Too often restaurants would be given a “B” for violations that do not lead to food borne illness. This would lead the public to believe that this facility was unsafe to eat at.

Result
The battle over which disclosure program Orange County would adopt came down to the E & A team showing the Orange County Board of Supervisors how a point system was unfair and misleading. Englander and Associates was able to prove that the point system used in Los Angeles County for their letter grade system was unfair and often punished restaurants for minor violations. Englander & Associates was able to convince the Orange County Board of Supervisors to keep their current public disclosure system in place and only target the critical violations that could lead to food borne illness, and not the minor violations that bear little significance on issues of public health.
