Los Angeles and Orange County Water Runoff
Cities and counties in California were being forced to require new strict regulations be placed on restaurants on how they deal with storm water runoff.
Solution
Englander & Associates was able to work with Los Angeles County Public Works Department and the Orange County Sanitation District to create a “Best Management Practices” program that helped educate restaurant owners and their staff about the proper procedures to stop runoff from their business ending up in the storm drains and ultimately ending up in the ocean.
Result
Although environmental groups fought the Best Management Practices program, claiming that they wanted violations to be given to businesses that allowed any runoff into the storm drains, Englander & Associates was able to negotiate with these groups and convince them that education was the best way to stop urban runoff from ending up in the storm drains. E & A has since helped design the educational material that has been distributed to every restaurant, fast-food establishment, hotel and grocery store in Los Angeles and Orange Counties.
